However, have no fear, as there is plenty to do in Durham this time of year. So if you find yourself in Durham this week, what weekend plans can you make? Let’s take a look. 

College Football

One of the mainstays of Durham this time of year is college football. Although the local teams like Duke University and the University of North Carolina are more known for their college basketball, each team still fields respectable football teams.

Both teams play in the Atlantic Coast Conference, one of the nation’s top college football conferences.

Many ACC players end up being drafted and going pro, so you may even see some future pros at the local college games. Even if Duke and North Carolina aren’t having great seasons, there’s always a chance that a top-ranked team like Clemson might be visiting the area for a game. 

Sarah P. Duke Gardens

Covering approximately 55 acres of area, the Sarah P. Duke Gardens is located in the heart of Duke University. The gardens attract thousands of visitors every year, being one of the area’s premier attractions.

These gardens house a plethora of different flowers and greenery, allowing visitors to experience flora they may have never seen before.

Additionally, many areas of the garden are beautifully designed with gorgeous pavilions, bridges, and benches, providing visitors with the perfect spots to stop and enjoy nature. 

Durham Performing Arts Center

The Durham Performing Arts Center is the largest performing arts center in the Carolinas, making it a major attraction for those that love the arts. The establishment is home to over 200 performances a year and has even played host to several touring Broadway shows.

All different kinds of shows and performances are put on at the Durham Performing Arts Center, meaning you’ll surely find something you’ll enjoy. The attraction is consistently ranked as one of the top performing arts centers in the country, meaning you definitely have to check out a show.

Museum of Life and Science 

If you’re looking for more of an educational experience during your weekend in Durham, then the Museum of Life and Science will likely be right up your alley. The museum has both indoor and outdoor exhibits, allowing you to take advantage of the fall weather or spend the day inside. 

Some of the museum’s most popular exhibits are its aerospace program, wildlife tour, and dinosaur trail.

Your children will also have an amazing time at the museum, as many of the museum’s attractions are tailored towards children. If you want a fun educational way to spend your weekend, check this museum out.
